Unique Providence Engagement Photos
The two wanted something a little different for their Providence engagement photos. While a pretty location during golden hour is appealing to anyone, the two wanted something more unique. I offered to provide them with a night time engagement session in downtown Providence.
The two were excited at the idea, so we met up at Plant City. Walking around the property, and down to the Providence Walking Bridge, we used the urban landscapes for backdrops — highlighting areas with lots of lights, and switching between using direct flash and ambient light.

Posing for Nighttime Engagement Photos
While working with the two, I kept them moving while focusing on photographing some of the in-betweens. I’m not a big fan of static poses — poses without moving. The more dynamic a pose, when a pose becomes more of a prompt and has movement, the more variety there is to capture. With the added complexity of photographing the two after dark, I wanted to snag some of the motion blur, and use shutter drags to play with the external lights from buildings and light installations.
Throughout the posing it was important to me to keep things fresh. I had bought a few lampshades at a thrift store, and decided to pull them out to play with. It kept us giggling and made things feel more light and fun, and less stiff — which definitely also matched their personalities, and their relationship.

Walking During Urban Engagement Sessions
When photographing urban, city engagement photos, it’s important to think about the path you’ll use to walk through. Will the path offer diverse environments for your clients? When I choose to meet at Plant City it allowed us to use some of the intimate spaces in the walkway up to Plant City, and around the building. These settings complimented the modern walkway of the Walking Bridge perfectly.
